What makes them so different?  Are there advantages and what about the disadvantage of hybrid cars?

Hybrid cars are just like any other vehicle that you can buy. The only difference really is the fact that instead of relying on one form of fuel like conventional vehicles, hybrid cars rely on two forms.

Gasoline Indepentdent

They still require gas just like any conventional vehicle, they are just not as dependant on gasoline alone.  That's an advantage of hybrid cars, especially with the rate at which gas prices are currently increasing. Hybrid cars reduce or eliminate the need for gasoline by using partial electricity or water to run.

A disadvantage of hybrid cars, at least those that are electrically powered is the fact that they tend to be heavier as a result of the extra weight from the battery. This is why the water hybrid conversions may be worth a try. 

For some that's the better way to go if you are seeking to use a hybrid vehicle as you won't end up with all the extra weight from the battery, but will still be taking advantage of the great qualities of an environmentally firendly vehicles.

Hybrids Chop Pollution

Hybrid cars compare to conventional vehicles in another way. The pollution factor. They still produce pollution of course, but because they are running partially on an alternative fuel source they are not producing pollutants in the volume that conventional vehicles do. The result is cleaner air.

Another advantage to hybrid cars can be tax breaks. A lot of governments offer tax incentives for those who go to hybrid vehicles as they have realized the impact our conventional vehicles are making on the environment and are trying to get people to change to hybrid vehicles.

This can save you from some of the financial burden that purchasing a new vehicle would place on you.

Hybrid cars compare to conventional vehicles on many different levels. Financially and environmentally you can find many advantages of hybrid cars, but dependant of the type of hybrid you go for, you may also find there is a disadvantage of hybrid cars as well.
