Hybrid Fuel Economy

"Hybrid Fuel Economy and the
   Budget Busting Cost of Driving!"

Is there anyone who has not noticed the massive price increases in gasoline?  It seems like the price per gallon posted on service stations changes at least daily.  That makes hybrid fuel economy very desirable.

.........It is stunning to remember that not long ago prices were steady at around $1.98.

The problem with sky rocketing gas prices is that we Americans are completely dependant on gasoline-powered transportation.

Most of us have a life style that cannot function properly without our cars.

Yes, in the summer a few of us can get away from the auto by riding bikes or walking to take of nearby chores.

During the winter months we are again dependant on our gas guzzlers.

Hurray for hybrid fuel economy! They are becoming practical and available just in time to fight back against rising prices of gasoline.

Unfortunately auto manufacturers, unsure of how hybrids would be accepted, did not prepare for their popularity.

Now the makers of hybrid cars can get them off the production line fast enough to satisfy demand.

There are still waiting lists for certain hybrid models, like those for a hybrid battery car.

Although there are many reasons why we should embrace the hybrid vehicle, it is their ability to save money on gasoline that has won our hearts.

Presently hybrid energy is supplied by a combination involving a small gasoline engine and an electric motor.  The gas electric hybrids use both to generate propulsion in the most efficient manner possible.

Drivers of cars powered by hybrid energy cannot tell much difference from driving a regular gasoline powered vehicle.  That is, there is little difference until they drive up to a gas pump.

Now hybrid electric vehicles may cost the consumer a bit more, mostly because of the high demand and low availability.  Over time the differential is recovered due to the money saved when buying gasoline.

Typical drivers report they spend less than $20 a week in gas for their hybrid.  There is no doubt that hybrids get better mpg than conventional gasoline powered cars.

Each hybrid model varies, however it is estimated that the average mpg for a hybrid vehicle is around 46 miles per gallon.  If you now own a vehicle that gets 21 mpg, you will spend an average of $8,550 a year on gasoline.  If you own a gas electric hybrid vehicle that gets 46 mpg, you will spend about $3,950 for a saving of over $4,650 a year.

And look, if you buy a hybrid that gets 55 mpg or more, then you will save between $500 and $1000 more a year compared to a 46mpg hybrid.

You will certainly do a little happy dance when you add up what you save in the cost of gasoline by owning gas electric hybrids.  Even when a hybrid car is compared to a conventional car of the same model, there is a drastic difference in gasoline spending.

To really understand how much you can save in the cost of fuel you need to understand a little information on hybrid cars.  There are three types of hybrid energy available.

A full hybrid relies on its electric motor for most of its propulsion.  When a full hybrid is stopped in traffic, the gasoline engine will instantly power off and may remain off, allowing the car to run on electric alone.   A mild hybrid is similar, only it does not have the power to accelerate from a stop without its gasoline engine assisting the electric motor.

A muscle hybrid is a vehicle that uses hybrid technology to increase power and performance rather than significantly increasing fuel economy.  Some say it is an expensive vehicle with very low cost-effectiveness.

If you feel like punching out the pump every time you gas up your old buggy, then you may want to investigate the new hybrids.  After all, if you have to have a part time job to pay for the gasoline to get to your full time job it's time for a change.

The car guys have begun offering the same styles of cars we all have grown to love in hybrid models.  Popular styles like the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord are now on showroom floors.  There is something for every car lover.

The great thing is that while hybrid owners enjoy lower fuel expense, you can also feel good about preserving the environment.
