Gas Saving Tactics

With the rising price of gas the popularity of hybrid vehicles for their gas saving ways is increasing.

But what does that leave for those who do not have the money to purchase a hybrid vehicle or the mechanical aptitude to do a conversion themselves, there must be a better way.

There must be ways to save on gas. So lets look at a few ways that everyone, regardless of the vehicle they drive, can save on gas.

First way is simple, don't drive. Use mass transit instead.

Gas Rebates

Get a credit card with a gas rebate program so that every-time you pay for gas you are saving on it as well.

Get yourself a gas station membership card. There are lots of membership cards that either save you a percentage on the gas itself or give you points that you can redeem in the store on merchandise and food.

Reduce your commute. If at all possible move closer to work or find a job closer to home. The time and money you save on travel can make that change of jobs or housing more than worth it.

Walk... What a Concept!

Walk between stops. If you have multiple stops to make park somewhere in the middle and walk between them to save on your pocketbook.

Plan your trip in advance. By planning out your trip you can find the quickest routes with the least amount of traffic and stops to allow you to save a few extra dollars on gas.

Park in the first spot you come upon at the shopping centre. Driving around for a better spot is a waste of gas and time and can increase your headache of fighting for the perfect spot.

Park in the shade when possible. Gasoline evaporates and unless you want your hard earned money to as well you will try to park in the shade, plus you will save on having to turn on the air conditioning as well.

Buy Gas in the A.M.

Early mornings and evenings are the best times to buy gas. Because it is cooler you will be purchasing the gas at a higher density as the pump measures by volume not density. This way you get more bang for your buck.

Only fill when you need to and don't fill the tank. The less weight you are driving around the less gas you are burning. This also means you should get rid of all the junk in your trunk and roof racks you are not using.

Ensure your tires are properly inflated. Flatter tires and ones that are improperly balanced cost you money.

Ride a Bike

To stretch their commuting budget the bicycle and motorized scooter will become wildly popular again.  And how about that "Rhodes Car" pictured below?  Doesn't that look like fun?

Saving money on gas doesn't have to be difficult and if you can't afford a fuel alternative or a hybrid vehicle, gas tips work for everyone. Save on gas and pad your wallet.
